Our operational team attempted to undertake a temporary repair on Tuesday with the assistance of divers. It was hoped that this would provide a limited amount of penning through the lock until permanent repairs could be undertaken. Unfortunately this was not successful as a large void has opened beneath the lock floor, meaning there is nothing to anchor a repair to.
Our Direct Services construction team are now planning for permanent repair works to be undertaken and we will be able to advise of a timescale for this next week (w/c 3rd May 2021). In the meantime the lock remains out of use.
We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause and commit to undertaking the repairs as soon as possible.

Our direct services team have been on site to start planning works and following the site investigation 2 holes were found in the lock floor. One is 220mm by 1.2 metres and the second hole is 115 x 115 mm square approx.
At this time, penning of any vessels is not possible.
Canal and River Trust are looking at other options and further information will be published when available.
