Description
Big Lock Footbridge is a Grade II listed bridge which had deteriorated and been replaced by a temporary footbridge. In March 2020, Big Lock Footbridge was removed and taken to a specialist factory to be grit blasted. It was then surveyed and the design to restore it was completed. This design was undertaken sympathetically, to retain the original bridge features whilst strengthening it to modern standards.
Works to prepare site for the return of the bridge will begin Monday 3 May, and navigation and towpath access will remain open for the duration of these works. However, the footbridge, which is currently being restored at a fabrication workshop, will be returned to site during week commencing Monday 24 May and, to ensure the safety of our customers, there will be occasional restrictions of up to 2 hours during craning operations. We politely request all customers travelling through the area to listen to any advice that may be given by the banksmen onsite.
We anticipate works will be complete by Friday 11 June.
