Works onsite to repair the breach between Lock 10 and Lock 11 on the Shropshire Union Canal are progressing well and we have now completed works to the concrete base, installed clay to the embankment, and installed spillway and towpath cobbles.
Over the next few weeks, our contractors will be continuing with works onsite and will then start to demobilise site by removing the dams and flume pipes in order to resume navigation in time for the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend at the end of May.
A further update will be provided Tuesday 25 May.

Contractors have now removed the debris from the breach site between Lock 10 and Lock 11 on the Shropshire Union Canal and have started works to rebuild the canal.
Over the coming weeks we will begin works to install the new embankment which has been designed by our engineers, following which we will be able to install a new canal bed and washwall.
Whilst there is a considerable amount of work that is required for navigation to resume, works onsite are proceeding well and we anticipate navigation will resume in time for the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend at the end of May.
A further update will be provided Wednesday 5 May.

Our contractors have now installed a road within the canal bed which will allow access to the site of the breach between Lock 10 and Lock 11 on the Shropshire Union Canal.
We are installing flume pipes and a downstream dam which will allow us to raise the water levels downstream of the breach back to normal levels and reduce the need to over pump, aiding access to the affected area.
A full design for the repair has been approved and works to repair the breach will start following the Easter Weekend.
A further update will be provided by Wednesday 7 April, including timescales of the repair.
26/02/2021 12:44
The access road to the canal is now complete and the head dam is in place between Lock 10 and Lock 11 on the Shropshire Union Canal.
Our teams are now making access into the canal bed and we anticipate works to repair the breach will start in approximately 3 weeks' time.
An update on progress made will be provided by Friday 26 March.

We have made significant progress in creating an access route to the breach site between Lock 10 and Lock 11 on the Shropshire Union Canal and we are anticipating obtaining access to site for our machinery late next week. Once access is secured, we will set up temporary pumping to allow installation of the stone and clay dams.
It is expected water levels in the surrounding area may vary whilst we carry out the above works, however, once works to install stone and clay dams are complete, we will be installing pipes to allow water to flow past the affected area.
Our teams will communicate with the boats in the immediate area.
A full repair of the embankment breach will take several months. Designs are currently being drawn up and finalised, but the canal is not likely to be open to navigation again until this summer.
An update on progress made will be provided by Friday 26 February.

The remoteness of the breach site between Lock 10 and Lock 11 on the Shropshire Union Canal means the team are having to install a new access route over third party land before repair works can commence. It is expected to take up to 2 weeks before machinery can access the area and begin the repair works. Our engineers are currently working on the design details to ensure the workforce can start as soon as the routes are established.
A further update will be provided Friday 12 February.

Our contractors are onsite installing a dam around the affected area between Lock 10 and Lock 11 on the Shropshire Canal. This will allow us to feed water to the canal downstream and assist our customers in the area.
Our teams are now looking at access to the site and designing a method of repair for the breach in canal wall.
Both navigation and towpath will remain closed and a further update will be provided Friday 29 January.

Please be advised, in addition to the navigation closure between Lock 10 and Lock 11 on the Shropshire Canal, towpath access is now closed from Bridge 109, Bates Mill Bridge to Beeston Brook Bridge No 107.
Our teams continue to work alongside our contractors and an update will be provided tomorrow, Friday 22 January.
