Further to the notice below, we are pleased to confirm that Torfaen County Borough Council have instructed that works are now complete along the section of canal from Bridge 47 to the Five Locks basin and the navigation is now open.

Description

We are sorry to advise that the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal remains unnavigable south of bridge 47. This area is not owned or managed by Canal & River Trust however we are aware that there is an obstruction below water level which could cause issues for our customers wanting to travel towards Five Locks from Pontypool.

The last winding hole is above bridge 47, where, in order to avoid inconvenience to customers who would then be unable to turn around, we have placed buoys across the navigation.

As we are not responsible for the navigation where the obstruction is, therefore we are unable to resolve or advise further on this situation. We would advise you contact Torfaen Council for further information.
