Updates

28/02/2020 16:09

The works planned for Barbridge sluice are complete and the leaks have been repaired.

However, due to recent heavy rainfall, the dam cannot yet be removed as the dam contractor's team has been called to emergency works elsewhere.

This stoppage has been extended for up to three days.

We appreciate your patience during these extremely challenging conditions.

Description

There is subsidence around the Barbridge Sluice and this needs to be urgently investigated.

A dam will be placed in the canal at the sluice and the washwalls and pipes will be inspected and repaired. Further works may be needed to the sluice next winter depending on the results of the investigation.

Navigation south from the junction of the Middlewich Branch will not be possible during this closure, but navigation north will not be affected.

We apologise for any inconvenience the short notice of this closure will cause.
