Continuing rain has led to flooding of the working area and difficulties in maintaining a dry, safe, working site for laying the geotextile liner.  Unexpected exposed rock on the canal bed has also been encountered requiring additional digging and a change to the liner design.

As a result, we need to extend the closure at the Calverley Embankment for up to two weeks, until 14th March 2020.

We very much appreciate your patience during these very difficult conditions.

Our Contractors have had difficulties maintaining a watertight seal to the temporary dams which provide a safe working area for the repairs to the Calverley Embankment.  This is due to excessive water levels in the area.

Additional pumping resources have been brought in and the temporary dams changed from clay to fabric. Unfortunately, this has led to a delay in the work programme.

The Contractors are now working increased hours and weekends to minimise the delay but the closure will be extended until 28th February.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause

Description

Piling and relining of the canal bed at the leak location where there is currently a clay bund obstructing the channel.

Fabric dams will be used to dewater a short section of the canal.

A towpath closure is yet to be confirmed but it is likely this will be required for a small number of days, not for the full duration of the works.
