We are hosting a family fun day at the Coventry Canal Basin and along the Coventry Canal as a way to encourage local people to explore this idyllic waterway.

Taking place in partnership with Drifters Waterways Holidays on 7 April from 10am to 4:30pm the free family fun day event will give local people the chance to have a go at everything from fishing to canoeing and even to have a trip aboard a narrowboat.

The day is a chance to have some fun family time and experience the health and wellbeing benefits of being by water. With a whole host of activities planned there is something for everyone. The free events include:

  • Taster session with canal boat holiday company Drifters
  • Canoeing taster session
  • Learn to fish with trained angling coaches
  • Guided cycle rides along the canal
  • Model railway exhibition
  • Guided tours and talks from Heritage Working boats
  • Street art demonstrations
  • Live music from The Tin

Plus, lots more.

The event is being run in partnership with Coventry City Council, Excellence Afloat Valley Cruises boat hire, British Cycling, Mercia Canoe Club, British Canoeing, The Riley Archive Project and Brink.

Nick Cleaver, from the Canal & River Trust, said: “The Coventry Canal is a really beautiful waterway and we want more people to come and explore it and use as part of their everyday lives.

“Research shows that being next to water is good for your mental and physical health and after just a few minutes walk along this canal and you really do feel like you're in the countryside and no longer in the busy city. It really is a secret oasis right on the doorstep for local people and we urge everyone to come along to the family day and see for themselves how nice it is.”

The event is at the Coventry Basin, CV14LY.

Parking is available at Leicester Row car park at 50p for the day.
