The Montgomery Canal brings wildlife right into the centre of Welshpool and the Canal & River Trust has devised a fascinating canal trail to help you and your family make the most of this exciting waterway.
Our trail follows a 1.2 mile (2km) mile section of the Montgomery Canal. There are 10 stop points, each marked with a QR code.
You need a free QR reader app (or an NFC-enabled phone) to find out what the code contains. Search for ‘QR reader’ on your smartphone AppStore/Market, or go to www.i-nigma.com.
At each stop, scan the QR code to find out fascinating facts about the canal and its wildlife.
If you’re walking the trail with children, download the free activity sheets.
They are full of fun wildlife facts about everything from alien invaders to amazing amphibians, bully birds to ferocious fish.
Canals are fun places, but they can also be dangerous. Remember:
Most of the canal is accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs, but in order to avoid the 1:4 gradient down from stop point 1, you might want to start at trail at stop 2.
