We are pleased to confirm that having received some of the required consents to work within the Site of Special Scientific Interest affected by the works our contractors will commence site mobilisation on Monday 20th July 2015.

It is anticipated the works will take approximately 6 weeks to complete if no other issues are highlighted once the team are on site.

A further update will be published on Friday 17th July prior to our contractors establishing their site compounds.

19/06/2015 16:07

Our specialist contractors have now finalised their intended designs for the repair works along with confirming the plant required to complete the works is available.  They are now in the process of confirming the availability of the materials for the work along with gaining the required environmental approvals to allow us to undertake the repairs in an area that is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. We are expecting confirmation of all approvals and materials within the next two week period which if achieved would enable us to commence works on site soon after that.

The current restrictions will therefore remain in place for the foreseeable future however we will issue another update on Friday 10th July 2015.

16/06/2015 16:35

Temporary works have been successfully installed between lock 1 & 2 which have for the time being stabilised the failing wash wall. Further ground investigations are now required in order for us to develop a full repair solution.

The current restrictions will therefore remain in place whilst we continue to work with our specialist contractors in the development of a full design solution.

A further update will be posted on Friday 19th June.

Monitoring will be ongoing during the weekend whilst water levels return to normal.  A further review will be undertaken on Monday and an update will follow on Tuesday 16th June.

Temporary repairs have been made and we are monitoring the stability of this repair. A further update will be available on Friday 12th June at lunchtime.

Description

A leak has developed within the off side wash wall between Aston Locks 1 & 2 on the Montgomery Canal.  Our engineers are currently investigating a repair solution that will bring the waterway back into use as soon as is practically possible.

Navigation on the Montgomery Canal is therefore restricted to the winding hole above Bridge 76 at Queens Head until further notice.

The nearest service station above the incident is located on Weston Arm of the Montgomery Canal below Frankton Locks.  There are pump out facilities at Maestermyn Marina on the Llangollen Canal and Blackwater Marina in Ellesmere.

A further update will be posted at lunchtime on Wednesday 10th June 2015.
