Further to our original notice regarding works on the Titford Canal, we were just about to dewater the navigation between Jarvis Bridge and Uncle Bens Bridge when our final visual inspection of the site discovered newly water-nesting birds.    As a result, our Ecologists and Engineers have urgently changed the methodology of the repairs so the nesting birds will not be disturbed.  The navigation will therefore not be dewatered and the works will be carried out under restriction, rather than a stoppage.

Our own Construction Team are carrying out the repairs and they are now working in the water.  For safety reasons, they will operate behind our work boats which will be moored across the canal.  We will move these boats as required in order to manage passing boat traffic.  Please take care and follow any instructions given by the Team on site.

The scope of the works will have to be reduced as a result of these changes but we expect to complete most of the work originally planned.  We will no longer take down or repoint the wall below water level but will trench and clay behind the wall instead.  The wall above water level will still be repaired and missing copers replaced.

Description

Following consultation with stakeholder groups in the affected area, we will be carrying out repair works on the Titford Canal during April and early May.

These works will include repairs to address the wall rotation and sections of missing brickwork.   We will also be replacing missing copers.
