Whilst the navigation is closed for repair works at Whetstone Lock 35 (please see separate notice), we are taking the opportunity to carry out additional repairs at Gees Lock 36.

Work at both locks will be completed and the navigation in this area will re-open, as planned, on 15th April.

Description

After a relatively dry winter, following on from last year’s exceptionally dry summer – one of the hottest and driest on record – reservoirs feeding some parts of the Oxford and Grand Union Canals have not refilled as quickly as would normally be expected.

In order to maximise the available water the Trust is carrying out some further water saving works, on top of our recent winter stoppage programme.  At Gees Lock these works include repairs to the bottom gate and cill.  These works will coincide with repair works also being carried out at Lock 35 (please see separate notice).

Boaters also have a really important role to play and we ask that they help us to save water by making sure that all gates and paddles are closed after use, sharing a lock if possible and waiting for oncoming boats where appropriate.
