Huddersfield Narrow Canal, Lock 9 East, Isis Lock

Our contractors will be completing the works this afternoon and the canal will be back open after 5pm today.

Work is continuing to repair Lock 9 East. The canal will be opened as soon as the repair is completed, which we expect to be by Friday 27th July at the latest.

Following the recent inspection of Lock 9 East,our engineers have now have formulated a repair.

This will be implemented from the week beginning 16th July. We will provide a further update by Friday 20th July

During planned works to repair some voiding at Lock 9 East, our contractor has identified that the voids are much larger than previously thought and both the lock structure and the towpath are undermined and at risk. 

As such, the lock cannot be operated without risk to the structural stability, and the towpath is not currently safe to use.  Therefore both the towpath and the lock have been closed until a repair can be completed. 

Our Engineers will inspect the site first thing tomorrow (Thursday) morning and will instruct works to repair the voids as swiftly as possible. We will provide a further update by Friday 13th July.
