On de-watering the canal to carry out the planned works at Standedge Tunnel, a substantial void was found at the base of the waterway wall. This requires significant repairs before the navigation is re-watered. We envisage this taking us beyond the end of the planned stoppage date and so the closure has been extended by one week. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Carry out repairs to the wash wall and refurbish the sluice and weir.
