We have received a revised date of Thursday 10th August (subject to weather) from our contractors for the final spray tar and chip operation.

It is strongly advised for boats not to moor in the area on this day.  This is to avoid damage from either the spray tar or stone chippings.

Many thanks for your patience.

Unfortunately our contractors were not able to attend today.

Work has been rescheduled for Tuesday 8th August.  We will be advising boats not to moor at this location on that day.

Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

The final stretch of towpath between Devizes Town Bridge and Cemetery Road bridge is due to be covered in tarmacadam today (21st July).  The barriers will be removed at the end of the day, and the towpath will be open.

Also, this base layer needs two weeks to cure before the final spray tar and chip can be laid. During this final operation the towpath will be closed for one day, date to be advised.

Please be advised that mooring will be limited between Devizes Town Bridge 141 and Cemetery Road Bridge 140 from 24th May – 30th June.

This is for the safety of our visitors whilst a new towpath is being constructed.  Localised signage will be put in place to show where it is safe to moor, but this will be temporarily restricted to approximately four boats.

At times during the works, the whole length will need to be closed for mooring whilst certain operations are being carried out.  This is to ensure that boats are not damaged by stone chippings.

We appreciate your patience with these restrictions as we endeavour to make long term improvements to the area.

To minimise any disruption to customers over the Easter and early May bank holiday period, the planned works are now due to start on Tuesday, 2nd May 2017.

The work has been scheduled to be completed within 8 weeks.

Description

Works will be starting on site on Monday, 20th March 2017 to upgrade the towpath between Devizes Cemetery Road Bridge and Devizes Town Bridge and are currently scheduled to be completed by 5th May 2017.

The towpath will be closed for the duration of the works.

Kier are aware there will be some disruption to boats and crew mooring up to use the locks, but lock usage will still be possible.

Some moorings will remain open and will be managed on site dependant on the operation being carried out.  Our contractors will work with boaters to ensure safe access.

Canal & River Trust are also aware that events will be taking place during this time period and will endeavour to make the towpath safe for users at these times.
