Playday 2020

Playday is the national day for play in the UK and this year it’s a celebration of the freedom of play and everyday adventures. Whether you’re celebrating Playday at home or with a trip to your local canal or river we’ve got lots of ideas to help you have fun with your children.

Playing helps to boost children’s physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing and spending time by water can make us feel healthier and happier too so why not combine both. Our Let’s Go Outdoors programme is packed with activities including natural art, yoga and games to play and our family activity trails will give your little ones the chance to step back in time or become a nature detective while exploring our beautiful canals.

If you’re staying at home then we’ve got lots of fun things to do with your children to celebrate play, like things to make, colouring sheets, a recipe for chocolate spiders (yum!) and den building. You’ll find these activities and lots of other ideas on the Make and Play page. We even have step-by-step instructions to build your own LEGO canal scene complete with lock gates, bridge, narrowboat and some of our favourite canal wildlife, so grab that box of LEGO out of the cupboard and get creative with the kids.

However you choose to celebrate Playday we'd love to see you having fun on the Explorers Facebook and Twitter pages.
