Corridor for Nature Opening Ceremony

On 22nd May, Grewelthorpe CE Primary School near Ripon celebrated the grand opening of their newly created habitat garden, which they won in the Canal & River Trust's 'Corridor for Nature' competition. The competition challenged primary schools across England and Wales to design a canal inspried habitat garden for their school grounds, based on the habitats found along canals.

The winning design was submitted by pupils Ned & Molly of Grewelthorpe School, and incorporated great detail about the flora and fauna needed to attract wildlife into the school. This included a wildflower meadow to attract pollinators, a wild area to provide shelter for small mammals and bat boxes on the school buildings. Now that the garden has been officially opened, pupils can begin to enjoy the space and bring a small piece of the waterways into their school.
