Road House has operated narrowboats on the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal within the spectacular scenery and peaceful surroundings of the Brecon Beacons National Park for over thirty years. We offer short break or weekly hire.
Our fleet of five cruiser style narrowboats are designed to give easy handling and manoeuvrability on this canal. They are carefully fitted out to make maximum use of space and provide comfortable and well-equipped accommodation whilst retaining a traditional feel. Equipment includes electric freshwater toilets, full-sized electric fridge, gas cooker and quiet central heating with radiators to give cosy dry heat for comfort when required. Well maintained engines means no lifting of deck boards to make daily checks. The size and design of our boats make them easy to handle, even for the novice. We offer a full handover and tuition prior casting off and ensure that everyone is comfortable prior your departure.
Our base here at Gilwern, four miles from Abergavenny, is just off the A465, within easy reach of the A40 and motorways. If you plan to arrive here by railway, we can collect you from Abergavenny Station, which has good links to the main network via Newport. Gilwern is ideally and approximately mid-way along the canal, 20 miles below Brecon and 13 miles above Pontymoile, thus you can choose between a cruise to Brecon, incorporating the locks, tunnel, lift-bridges and the more spectacular scenery, or the more secretive, peacefully-isolated winding waters southward towards Pontymoile.
We are a small friendly, family run business and we can assure you of our closest attention at all times, and all the support you may need, especially if canal boating is new to you. We have been canal enthusiasts ourselves for many years, and are very happy to talk to you about our boats or the canal.
Secure car parking is available at the rear of our property. Dogs are welcome but we do keep one boat dog free for those with allergies.
