The town of Newark grew up around a crossing point on the River Trent (the mouth of the River Devon is also nearby) and the townscape is still dominated by the dramatic remains of Newark Castle, as well as numerous warehouses with links to a more industrial age. This makes Newark Town Lock a great location for local history, STEM and river studies as well as providing pupils with the opportunity to visit a lock and see how they operate.
