River Severn, Gloucestershire, GL1 2EB
This is an opportunity to support the Unlocking the Severn project by initially getting involved in a vegetation maintenance programme on Diglis Island that will enhance the visitor experience to the island. Tasks will include: managing hedgelines, creating a new pathway, building 'bug' hotels & pruning the orchard. Other tasks to be confirmed as the team develops.
There will be two tasters days in January: Tuesday 14th and Tuesday 21st. You can sign up to one or both by emailing Volunteer.WalesSouthWest@canalrivertrust.org.uk
The sessions will be run weekly on Diglis Island from 28th January until the end of March with the potential for the team to cover the other lock islands from April onwards. There will also be an opportunity to develop a lead volunteer role.
As well as getting to meet new people, this task offers fresh air, exercise and the chance to enjoy some of our beautiful waterways and the wildlife that lives there.
This role is about supporting the work we do with some low maintenance tasks, so some practical skills will be useful. You will receive training as required including a one-day Health & Safety course.
