Ellemsmere Port, Shropshire Union Canal, The Wirral

We're joining forces with #2MinuteBeachClean to rid our canals, rivers and oceans of plastic and litter. The key to this is ‘your small action makes a big difference’. And here's how easy it is to get involved.

Look out for one of our large, branded ‘A’ boards out on the towpath in Ellesmere Port, just south of the National Waterways Museum. The board contains biodegradable and compostable bags made from corn starch, with litter pickers attached to it. Then all you have to do is take two minutes (or more!) of your time to pick up some rubbish with the litter pickers, put it in the bag. Share your pickings on social media using the hashtag #PlasticsChallenge. Recycle what you can and bin what you can’t. It’s that simple.

We've set these up for those people with little time and just want to get on with this. There's no need to register for this and you can do it on your own, with your family, with friends or with your dog?

Skills required

When you arrive, have a look at the safety information on the board with the litter pickers and take in all the safety messages. These help ensure that you have a safe and enjoyable time. For example, don't get too close to the water's edge and if you find particularly dangerous items of litter (broken glass or needles), contact us and don't pick them up yourself.
