Activities: One off or a taster, Practical, Regularly
Starts: 9 February 2019
Lea Bridge, River Lee, Hackney
We need your help to prevent invasive floating pennywort from taking over the River Lee, where it can prevent boats from using the river, threaten fish and invertebrates and crowd out native plant species. Join us at Lea Bridge on Saturday 9th February to help remove pennywort from the river and prevent it's spread.
All tools and equipment will be provided, together with expert and friendly support and refreshments. We will be delighted to see you there!
Please meet at 10am at the Princess of Wales Pub, Lea Bridge, E5 9RB. The event will run from 10am - 3.30pm, join us for the morning or bring a packed lunch and stay all day!
The Towpath Taskforce offers a great way to meet other local Trust volunteers and staff, learn new practical skills and hear about other volunteer opportunities. It is also a chance to make a real difference to the beautiful River Lee by preventing the invasion of floating pennywort where it can cause serious issues for boaters and native wildlife while meeting like minded individuals.
No experience is required, you just need to be willing to get stuck in. Please wear old clothes appropriate for the weather conditions (e.g. sun hat or water proofs) and sturdy footwear ideally boots or wellies. If possible, please contact us to let us know you're planning to come – sign up below or ring 0303 040 4040 for more details.
