Activities: Heritage, Outdoors, Practical, Regularly, Working with visitors
Starts: 2 August 2018 to 16 September 2018
Middleport, Trent & Mersey Canal, Staffordshire
A section of the world famous ceramic poppy installation, first displayed at the Tower of London, is coming to Middleport Pottery, on the banks of the Trent & Mersey Canal, near Stoke – and we urgently need volunteers to help with visitors. Thousands of people are expected to view Poppies: Weeping Window, part of the original art work, which will be on display at Middleport Pottery, Burslem, for six weeks from 2nd August – 16th September. One of the best vantage points to see the cascading poppy installation will be from the canal towpath, so special arrangements are being put in place to accommodate the massive increase in canal visitors expected during the exhibition. Volunteering duties will include: helping visitors, providing local information, assisting with crowd control and supporting Trust staff to keep the area looking its best. Volunteering opportunities are flexible – from a single half day to a regular spot throughout the installation.
Great way to meet people and work outdoors in a beautiful waterside setting. Contribute to the vital role of helping visitors enjoy this iconic national event. Opportunity to learn more about local heritage and environment, adjacent to a working pottery and visitor centre. Job satisfaction, exercise and plenty of fresh air working as part of a team with other Trust volunteers and staff to ensure the smooth running of the six week event.
This role would suit someone who is outgoing, enjoys the outdoors, enjoys meeting/ greeting different people and sharing local knowledge. Training provided.
