Turnerwood, Shireoaks, Chesterfield Canal
How do you fancy caring for some of our old locks, many Grade II listed, in a beautiful rural setting?
We meet every Tuesday to look after the 23 locks between Shireoaks, Kiveton and the Brancliffe Feeder which supplies the canal with water from the River Ryton.
You could find yourself trimming back vegetation, managing the hedgerows, improving the towpath surface, clearing the bywashes and feeder channels of reed, painting lock gates and furniture or helping with water control.
Take pride in making your local canal a place for all to enjoy.
Learn new practical skills in a tranquil location.
Get to meet other local Trust volunteers and staff, as well as the resident swans and kingfishers.
Reward yourself during the summer months with locally produced ice-cream from the canal-side Orchard Teas.
Boost your physical and mental well-being.
As a variety of tasks are carried out, all levels of ability are welcome. On-the-job training and guidance is always available from our leaders.
