Bugsworth Basin, SK23 7NE
The Bugworth Basin Heritage Trust are looking for volunteers to help us maintain the canal at Bugsworth Basin. This is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and was a busy canal/tramway interchange basin.
They meet each month on the second and fourth Sunday. There are a variety of tasks to suit your inclinations and interests, including vegetation management, painting, repairs to the historic structures and leakage control, interpretation of the basin area, manning their visitor display and talking to visitors about the history of the basin and the Peak Forest Tramway. They meet twice monthly on a Sunday between 9.30 and 4.00 but you don’t have to stay all day! Weekday work dates can also be organised.
An opportunity to work outside in the beautiful Peak District in a place of historical interest.
If you have a skill we can probably put it to good use and will pass on the skills of other members of the group. A willingness to get your hands dirty or to talk to visitors about the history of the basin and surrounding area would be great.
This volunteering opportunity is run in partnership with Tracey Jackson. Visit their website to find out more and make contact at: https://bugsworthbasin.org/
