Activities: Recording and monitoring
Gloucester & Sharpness Canal, Gloucestershire
Do you enjoy watching wildlife? Would you like to help us better understand the behaviour of birds at Sharpness Dock? We need someone with a keen interest in the natural world to act as ‘birdspotter’ during our dredging activities in the dock.
The dredging project will take place in the lower basin at Sharpness Port so we ask that you arrive at the Sharpness Dock office for 9.45am for a 10am start. It would be great if you could support this project for a minimum of 2 hours / maximum 6 hours for 1 day or more over the two weeks of the project. Please wear sensible outdoor clothing including sturdy shoes.
If you are interested please let us know in advance. You will be met on site by one of our team and given a Health & Safety briefing prior to starting as well as a checklist and instructions on how to record and monitor the birds.
You will not be expected to identify the birds to species level but you will need to be able to tell the difference between groups of birds; gulls, waders or ducks, and keep notes on their behaviour. You will be met on site by one of our team and given a Health & Safety briefing prior to starting as well as a handy guide and instructions on how to record and monitor the birds. We will also ask you to fill in a registration form either before or on the day.
