Activities: Education volunteers
Starts: 16 October 2017 to 31 December 2020
Closing Date: 31 May 2016
Newbury, Kennet & Avon Canal, Berkshire
We are looking to expand our team of education volunteers in partnership with the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust based at Newbury Wharf. The K&ACT run a trip boat from the wharf and manage a popular café which has space upstairs which could be used to host primary school visits. The role of the education volunteer will include leading canal related workshops, guided walks and activities for school groups and making sure that every aspect of a school visit runs smoothly. The role particularly suits people who have experience of working with primary school children. We are particularly interested in working with volunteers with experience of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a creative team. You will be involved with developing new resources for the site. The rewards will be knowing that you have contributed to a class of children having an enjoyable visit and ensuring we encourage the next generation to take an interest in our canals. You will have the support of an education officer and help from existing Explorers education volunteers based at nearby locations. All travel costs will be reimbursed.
Previous experience of working with young people in primary schools.
Experience of creating and delivering hands-on learning resources for children.
The ability to enthuse young people through talks and activities.
The ability to volunteer flexibly particularly during school term times.
This volunteering opportunity is run in partnership with Eliza Botham. Visit their website to find out more and make contact at: https://jubilee.katrust.org.uk/
