Towpath Rangers are the eyes and ears of the local waterway, a friendly face who is happy to chatting to towpath users including boaters, walkers and cyclists when needed. On your regular (weekly or more often) walks along your towpath patch, you’ll get to spot anything you think we should be aware of too – for example a fence that needs repairing. You may also get the chance to lead guided walks, help with work parties and assist local residents in this varied role. There will be opportunities to take part in this role along the length of the canal.
This opportunity would suit someone with a few hours to spare each week, although you can dedicate more time if you choose to. You’ll be happy chatting to the general public and if you have a love of the local waterways, all the better. We would welcome interest from couples as well as individuals – this task is a great way to get fit and see some great wildlife at the same time!
As well as getting to meet new people, this task offers fresh air and exercise – as well as the chance to enjoy some of our beautiful waterways and the wildlife that lives there. If you have one, the dog might appreciate the exercise too!
No experience is required – but you must be able to commit a few hours a week to the task and be comfortable covering a defined stretch of canal on foot or by mobility scooter. Any training required will be provided.
