Notices and stoppages

If you're planning a boat journey, or going for a walk or ride along our towpaths, it's a good idea to check if there are any closures or works affecting your route before you leave home.

Storm advisory notice

The Met Office has announced that Storm Austen is forecast to affect large parts of the UK from 00:00 to 14:00 on Friday 23 October. This is followed on Saturday by Storm Buelo, which is forecast to affect northern areas.

Please be aware that the canal network may be affected by strong winds.

Please only move your boat if it is safe to do so, make sure your boat is securely moored, and consider tying down or bringing in any items on your roof or decks.

Our response time may be longer than usual while we are dealing with storm conditions and damage. Thank you for your patience.

Booking passage

To travel through some tunnels, bridges and locks you will need to book passage in advance. This might be because of unexpected events, such as an unplanned stoppage, or because boat passage needs to coincide with tide times.
