Napton Lock 8 to Atkins Lock 14, Oxford Canal

We can confirm that Napton Locks 8 to 14 have now re-opened.

Canal & River Trust staff will be on site to assist boats through the locks. Please follow their instructions to ensure that passage is as efficient as possible.

We can confirm that Napton Locks 8 to 14 will be open by 12pm on Friday 9 May 2014.

There are some hire boats which urgently need to return to their base for turnaround and these boats will be given priority when the flight opens.

The canal at Napton will reopen on Friday 9 May 2014. We are waiting for some specific materials to be delivered and until these arrive we cannot confirm the opening time. However, we will advise of the specific opening time during Thursday 8 May 2014.

Once the flight is open, staff or volunteers will be available to assist boats to pass through the locks as smoothly as possible.

Some priority may be given to hire boats returning to base for turnaround when the flight initially reopens.

A contractor will be on site at Napton Lock 10, first thing in the morning on Wednesday 7 May 2014. The contractor will be commencing works to make the site safe so that the Napton Flight can be reopened.

We will review the situation tomorrow and will provide a further update before the end of the day, regarding specific opening information.

Due to structural failure of the approach wall at Lock 10, Napton Lock 8 to Atkins Lock 14 will be closed until further notice.

Our engineering team will assess the cause failure as soon as possible and further information will follow, as soon as it is available.
