Customer Operations Team Volunteer Wigan

This role sits in the Customer Operations Team with the volunteer working individually or with a small number of other volunteers alongside Trust employees to deal with everyday issues on the waterways.
You will be helping with a variety of different tasks and activities such as planting, landscaping and general building maintenance. It’s all about keeping our waterways maintained to high standard and offering something memorable to all visitors. This will involve handling a variety of tasks, both planned and reactive within your local team and could include:
• General vegetation management (clearing vegetation principally)
• Painting, greasing and maintaining locks and other structures such as swing bridges
• Cleaning and installing signs
• Routine works such as water control and weir clearing
• Being an advocate for the Canal & River Trust both locally and nationally.
Trust induction and safety training will be given. References will be taken.

What skills are we looking for?
The role will suit people who have a friendly enthusiastic manner and enjoy working outdoors. It involves working with power tools and gardening equipment and will require you to take part in training assessments. This role can also sometimes be physically demanding, and you may be on your feet all day. You will be required to attend an interview as part of the selection process, and full training will be given. Out of pocket expenses can be claimed. Ideally you’ll be able to give 1 - 2 days a week to give and gain the most from the task.
