River Trent Planned Preventative Maintenance Volunteer

Do you have an interest in how canal lock gates work? Would you like to be part of a team helping to ensure their smooth operation? Do you have an interest in general maintenance?
Working as part of a welcoming volunteering team we have an opportunity to work on the some of our beautiful hidden gems along the River Trent. Volunteers undertaking this role will help to service our 6 Lock Gates & Rams along the River Trent in line with the regions maintenance schedule.
Volunteers will assist to ensure that all moving parts are well lubricated to a standard to prevent seizure or wear, tighten bolts, check and adjust collars and anchors, clean lock signs, edge coping stones and bollard plinths and more.

Volunteers undertaking this role will receive an induction and on-going training as required. All volunteers will receive full training so you are equipped with the knowledge to undertake all the planned preventative maintenance required to service and maintain the locks to help ensure they remain in full working order.
Genuine out of pocket expenses are paid by the Trust.
What skills are we looking for?
You will need a hands-on approach, a can-do attitude and the flexibility to work on your own or with others in small teams. Some practical skills may be an advantage, but full training is provided on all tasks surrounding lock maintenance. The role will involve getting messy & working in all weather conditions, so please dress appropriately.
Good communication skills are required to help deliver key instructions to lock keepers and boaters.
This is a hands on, physical role.
This opportunity is flexible so will suit someone with a few hours to spare each week. You can help to service any of the 6 lock sites on the River Trent, including Holme Lock, Stoke Lock, Gunthorpe Lock, Hazelford Lock, Newark Town Lock and Newark Nether Lock.
