What's involved?
Creating a team of trained enthusiastic, creative and committed volunteers to engage local secondary students through direct and indirect engagement via variety of events and activities. They will work with a wide range of community groups, schools and teachers to aid delivery of the STEM Education Programme. We also aim to deliver curriculum-based workshops within schools, providing resource-rich learning opportunities. This includes: - Classroom workshops - Developing interactive and engaging resources - Engaging through online webinars - Supporting at fairs and site visits
What's in it for you?
We will offer our volunteers a range of bespoke training opportunities to develop their soft skills i.e. confidence in communication, increasing their science capitol and presenting to an audience The opportunity to learn more about waterway heritage and wildlife; use your skills and learn new ones; meet new people and of course, inspire young people. Most volunteers find opening the eyes of young people to the world around them is the most rewarding part of the role. We reimburse all travel costs
What skills are we looking for?
• Previous experience of hands-on learning with children, or a strong desire to gain experience in this area. • The ability to enthuse young people through engaging talks and activities. • Able to work within a team as well as deliver activities to an agreed format unsupervised.
