Activities: Outdoors, Regularly, Working with visitors
Congleton, Trent & Mersy Canal, Cheshire, CW12 3DE
The Active Waterway volunteers will work alongside staff and other volunteers to support adults taking part in an active ageing programme aimed at encouraging over 55s to increase their levels of physical activity by participating in activities on the canals in Cheshire.
You will provide encouragement, support and motivation to the participants and work with the project staff and other volunteers to help create a programme of local canal-based activities.
You will help to promote the activities with the local communities, groups, clubs and the boating community.
You will have the opportunities to help deliver the activities and will help collect feedback from the participants, capture the project outcomes and feed back ways to improve the project.
You don’t need any specialist knowledge, just enthusiasm and interest in supporting people to get active.
It’s the perfect opportunity for those who enjoy being outside and spending time with people.
This is the chance to have a positive impact on your local waterway; encouraging greater use of the waterways and appreciation and helping participants of the programme to improve their health and well-being. It is an opportunity to learn new skills and meet other volunteers.
To carry out this role, you’ll ideally have an interest in the waterway and/or the local area. The most important attributes are an ability to interact with and help others and a friendly manner. Ideally, we are looking for someone who is locally based. Knowledge of wellbeing – physical or mental desirable. We will provide all the necessary training and reasonable out of pocket expenses.
