Manchester Bolton and Bury Canal
We are seeking a Volunteer Project Manager with an interest in the waterways and the enthusiasm to support the project management of restoration work at Nob End locks by volunteers on the Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal. Comfortable with implementing schedules to meet key milestones and project objectives, as well as assisting with managing a project budget, you will be required to assist in mainiaining key relationlships with a variety of local and national stakeholders, both internal and external to the Trust. As this is a canal restoration project, you will also need to be sympathetic to environmental and heritage matters, as well as maintaining a view of health & safety. Ideally, you'll be able to give at least one full day a week to give and gain the most from the task.
You will need to establish and maintain a close and strong working relationship with the Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal Society who are the principal volunteer group for the restoration. Management and Supervision: such as doing the tasks that lead or support any work happening (i.e. planning work) and some office-based roles such as planning activities, continued recruitment, alongside the Trust, of volunteers, also liaising in part, with the local authorities or neighbours, leading volunteers on site etc. The change to get involved in a restoration project that is already well loved by the local communities and use your project management skills to great effect.
A HND/degree in a relevant subject is desirable, ideally complemented by a Project Management qualification.
Experience of successfully managing projects.
You will be experienced and comfortable working with volunteers.
The ability to negotiate and handle difficult situations that will arise during the project.
Comfortable with some media attention as this is a relatively high-profile restoration project and actively seek opportunities to promote the work of volunteers and the Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal Society.
