Navigable by boat or on foot, the Mid-Worcestershire Ring is an interconnecting circle of waterways which form a unique tourist destination. The Ring is a major new arts programme that is taking place between March and September 2018 celebrating the historic 21-mile Worcestershire circular canal that flows through the urban and rural landscapes of Worcester and Droitwich.
According to legend, the last journey of a wych barge from Droitwich took place in 1916, carrying hayricks for the army in France. This was the 'Volunteer', which is now partially 'recreated' in Vines Park.
Artist Katy Beinart will recreate this journey, in reverse. Salt will be delivered from around the world to Gloucester docks, and then loaded onto a barge. The barge will travel up the Severn and into Droitwich Barge Canal finally arriving at Vines Park for St Richard’s Festival on Sun 6th May 2018. On arrival, the salt will be taken off the barge and added to a miniature salt pavilion.

For this activity we are looking for 7 volunteers to help load the salt onto the barge at Gloucester Docks on the morning of the 4th May and 8 volunteers to support the unloading at Vine's Park on the moring of the 6th May. You will be given an induction into the Canal & River Trust and learn more about The Ring project. More information (including timings) will be provided on application.
