Are you looking for a flexible volunteer experience which will help improve the boating experience across London? We’re introducing Volunteer Mooring Rangers at various location across the London Waterway to provide a welcoming information service to mooring customers, prompt positive boater behaviour and record information about boats using visitor moorings.

This is an opportunity to be the welcoming ‘face’ of the Canal & River Trust. You will be on hand to provide visitors with useful information about the local area, the Trust and positive boating behaviour; keep our information boards up to date; record boat index numbers to help us assess the most popular stay times for our mooring strategy and be our 'eyes and ears' on your patch.

The opportunity to volunteer in some unique locations, meet new people and contribute to our planning of boater services and education of mooring behaviour. If you’ve got a passion and interest in the waterways, you can share it with others or if you enjoy pointing people towards the local pub or chippie, you’ll be able to do this as well.

Skills required

A friendly, helpful manner and the ability to communicate clearly and diplomatically with a wide variety of different people is essential.

Some knowledge of the local area, boating or boating services is desirable but not essential as support will be given.

You’ll need some flexibility, be able to give a minimum of an hour per week (this could be day time, evenings or at the weekend) and be happy to work on your own or with others.

You’ll need to range stretches of canal and river by foot or by bike.

Enjoyment of working outdoors is important, whatever the weather!
