Activities: Administration and support, Engineering, Office-based, Other specialist roles, Regularly
Closing Date: 1 June 2018
If you are an Engineering student seeking some work experience to complement your CV, or a retired professional interested in volunteering for a day or so a week, we may have the right role for you. Throughout the year our Works Engineers work closely with third parties to review applications from those who wish to work on, near or over our waterways, and this specialist team are seeking an enthusiastic volunteer (or two) to support their work and get involved in a stimulating role.
Typical tasks may include fielding initial enquiries from applicants, to assisting with site visits with third parties, through to reviewing health & safety information to raising notices for work. Whilst much of the role will be office based, there will be a chance to visit site (travel expenses will be paid) and we will also provide appropriate PPE where needed.
This task may be of particular interest to you if you are a student who is seeking some work experience in the field to complement your studies and increase your employability. Alternatively, this may also be of interest to retired professionals who are seeking a specialist volunteering role for a couple of days per week to use knowledge and skills gained during your career. Either way you will be part of a friendly, professional team and make a real difference to our waterways.
In addition to technical knowledge/skills (Engineering, Health & Safety), the successful volunteer will need to have good communication skills (verbal and written) and be comfortable liaising with a range of people. IT skills are also required for this task.
The role will be a combination of office and site based and could be split between volunteers, depending on the level of interest received. Please note that it is standard procedure that a reference will be taken for volunteers in this position, and you will be invited to a short informal interview.
