This opportunity is for a voluntary sandwich year placement as a Volunteer Environmental Assistant within our Environment Team. This role will be based at Northwich, but you can expect to travel regularly to other offices (such as Kidsgrove, Rochdale and Wigan) and canals and rivers across Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, North and Mid Wales. The placement will involve both field and office based work, and will assist the work of the local Environment team.
Volunteering with the Environment team will allow you to develop valuable skills to complement your environmental studies. The team work with colleagues, contractors, volunteers and customers to name some of the people you may interact with. This placement will be of particular relevance to you if you are studying an environmental subject and wish to work in this sector upon successful completion of your studies.
You'll need a good understanding of environmental issues, and have good research, data management, communication and time management skills. You will also need to be able to confidently use Microsoft Office packages such as Word and Excel.
This role requires someone who is comfortable both indoors and on site, who is willing and able to travel. The placement will be available for a minimum period of 36 weeks and is being offered for a minimum of 3 days per week. There may be some flexibility regarding the start/end date of the placement to fit with studies.
