Activities: Recording and monitoring
North Environment Team
The Tees Barrage is a barrage across the River Tees just upriver of Blue House Point in the borough of Stockton-on-Tees in North East England. An impressive feat of engineering, it was built to contriol the river flow, preventing flooding and the effects of tidal change.
We are looking for volunteers to monitor the number of Grey and Harbour Seals present in the River at the Tees Barrage. This is to monitor the number of seals seen and any fish predation that is occurring.
We are looking for volunteers to undertake the annual seal survey. The survey will take roughly an hour per day at high tide. We are looking for a team of volunteers who can share the load between the variable times. Some surveys are early in the morning, some in the middle of the day and others during the evening, we will look to developing a rota once we have collated all expressions of interest.
Full training will be provided.
You will develop survey skills and contribute towards the work of Canal & River Trust.
You should have an interest in wildlife surveying and live within a 20 mile radius of Tees barrage.
In order to complete the survey you will need to attend a training session on Wednesday 7th June at the barrage.
