Activities: Education, Education volunteers
Starts: 1 August 2016 to 1 April 2020
Closing Date: 1 September 2019
Join our team of education volunteers working on the fascinating Grantham Canal as it undergoes a restoration project. You will be working in partnership with the Grantham Canal Society to lead school, Cub scout and Brownie groups on canalside trails as well as running sessions in the classroom. All of our sessions are designed to inspire young people in the heritage and wildilfe of the area.
This is a great opportunity for people who like working outdoors and who have previous experience of working with children. No 2 days are ever the same as we respond to the interests of the group - you could be working with Brownies to help them gain their water safety badge one day, then out on the canalside exploring local history the next!
The role requires a commitment to between 3 and 4 days per month during school hours in term time, with some evening, weekend and school holiday activity sessions.
We provide you with resources and full training on how to lead groups of children at this specific location as well as in a more traditional classroom environment. You will have the support of an education officer as well as the other volunteers in your team. We reimburse you for all travel costs.
For roles working with children we are looking for volunteers who have
The confidence to work with and talk to groups of children and lead workshop sessions
The ability to enthuse through words and activities
Desire to work outdoors
The ability to be flexible
The ability to work independently
The ability to drive to different locations
Previous experience of working with children
