Activities: Education volunteers
Marple, Peak Forest Canal, Cheshire
We are looking to establish a new team of learning volunteers based at Marple. The volunteer role includes leading workshops, guided walks and activities to introduce children, families and special interest groups to the rich heritage and wildlife of Mellor Mill, Marple Lime Kilns and the Peak Forest Canal. You will be making sure every aspect of a session runs smoothly and will pride yourself in making sure that they want to come back. There will also be opportunities to visit local schools to deliver outreach sessions, and more informal learning activities with families and special interest groups. The role particularly suits people with experience of working with children and families. Please visit www.oldknows.com for more information about our project.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a newly established creative team. You will be involved with developing new resources for the site. The rewards will be knowing that you have contributed to a class of children having an enjoyable visit and ensuring we encourage the next generation to take an interest in our local hsitory. You will have the support of an education officer and help from existing Explorers education volunteers and Mellor Archaeological Trust. All travel costs will be reimbursed.
Previous experience of working with young people in primary schools or other education settings.
Experience of delivering hands-on learning resources for children and families.
The ability to enthuse people through talks and activities.
The ability to volunteer flexibly particularly during school term times.
