Activities: Education volunteers
Sefton, Leeds & Liverpool Canal, Liverpool, L30 0QS
Due to the current situation with Coronavirus, we are not recruiting for this role. We will endeavour to update you as soon as we can, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause
If you love working with children and enjoy being outdoors join our brand new team of education volunteers in Sefton! Help children discover the magic of the waterways through our Canal & River Explorers programme by leading sessions for primary schools, cub scouts and brownie groups both in their classrooms and out and about on our canals.
We are looking for people who can volunteer flexibly and respond to school and informal group requests as required and who can commit to at least 3 or 4 days a month. We try and give you at least 2 weeks’ notice of a visit. Often several sessions will take place in one school or waterside location in a day normally from about 9am – 3.30pm.
The opportunity to learn more about waterway heritage and wildlife; using your skills and learning new ones; being in an attractive environment and of course working with children!
We'll provide you with resources and full training on how to lead groups of children. You'll also have the support of an education coordinator as well as the other volunteers in your team and we'll reimburse you for all travel costs.
For volunteers working with children we are looking for:
• Previous experience of working with young children or a strong desire to gain experience.
• The desire to work outdoors.
• The confidence to talk to, and lead workshops with, groups of children.
• The ability to enthuse young people through talks and activities.
This role involves regulated activity with children and adults at risk, as defined by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Therefore, an Enhanced Criminal Record check will be undertaken and references will be sought. A criminal record is not always a bar to volunteering with us.
