Activities: Regularly, Working with visitors
Little Venice, Grand Union Canal Paddington Arm, London
We’re looking for volunteers to join the team at the Little Venice Welcome Station. Based at one of the most iconic sites on London’s canals, this is an opportunity for you to welcome visitors to the area whether they come on boat, foot or bike and ensure that they leave with a greater understanding and affinity to the waterways.
The role involves being on hand to talk to visitors, answering questions and informing them about the what, where, when and why of the local area and canals. If you wish, there is also a chance to get involved in helping to look after the area around Little Venice through activities including gardening and litter picking.
We are looking for people who are friendly, approachable and enthusiastic and know who to ask if they don’t know the immediate answer!
The Little Venice Welcome Station opens at weekends and on bank holidays so we are looking for people who can volunteer at these times.
This is an opportunity to volunteer at an iconic location and to meet a wide range of visitors and locals. If you’ve got a passion and interest in the waterways or the Little Venice area which you can share it with others, or if you enjoy pointing people towards the local pub or chippie, this is the opportunity for you.
It’s very satisfying at the end of the conversation when people leave with a smile of ‘thanks’.
The ability to communicate effectively with people is essential, to gauge the right level of information they’re looking for and to supply it in an efficient and friendly manner.
The role may involve opening and securing the building and helping to maintain the surrounding area.
