Pontcysyllte, Llangollen Canal, Wrexham
Towpath Rangers are the eyes and ears of the local waterway, a friendly face who is happy engaging with towpath visitors including boaters, walkers and cyclists.
On your regular walks along your towpath patch, you’ll get to spot any issues that we should be aware of – for example a towpath that needs patching, a noticeboard needing updating, or an overgrown access point. By talking to users, you will help us to tackle their priorities, and help the wider community engage with their local waterway.
We are particularly looking for volunteers who would be interested in promoting our ‘Share the Space’ campaign - aiming to positively engage with all of our visitors to the canal and promote a positive relationship between anglers, dog walkers, casual walkers, boaters and cyclists.
This opportunity would suit someone with a few hours to spare each week, although you can dedicate more time if you choose to.
It's a great way to meet other local volunteers, learn new skills, and hear about other volunteering opportunities if you fancy getting more involved.
To carry out this role, you’ll ideally have an interest in the waterway and/or the local area, but this is not essential. The most important attributes are an ability to interact with and help others; a friendly manner and the ability to make a good first impression; a hands-on approach and can-do attitude, and flexibility to work on your own or with others. Ideally we are looking for someone who is locally based; and be available to work as part of a team.
