What's involved?

Are you looking for an opportunity to get involved in more events this year? We have a great chance for you to join a busy team and learn more about event organisation and participation.

We’re looking for friendly and approachable volunteers to join the London & South East Events Team. This is an opportunity to be the ‘face’ of the Canal and River Trust. You will play a key role in the enjoyment of the visitor experience and ensure that they leave with a greater understanding and appreciation of the waterways.

The role involves being on hand to help at events with marshalling, litter picking, and helping with children’s activities at Trust led events such as Angel and Hayes canal festivals.

You will also be the face of the Trust at events where we have presence, such as IWA’s Canalway cavalcade or local community festivals; to talk to visitors, increasing their understanding of the work that the Canal and River Trust carries out and to answer any queries they might have.

What's in it for you?

Becoming part of a friendly and dedicated team, volunteering in a beautiful environment, meeting people and making new friends, improving communication skills and enjoying new experiences. You have the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of events types, settings and sizes, including community focussed events to our larger festivals, some of which have over 6000 visitors.

The role can also work well for couples or friends to work together. If you have got a passion or interest in the waterways you can share it with others, or if you enjoy meeting new people then this role is right for you.

What skills are we looking for?

• Friendly and approachable manner.
• Display the Trust values
• Enjoy being outdoors
• Enjoy meeting and talking to new people from all backgrounds
• Working in a team as well as on own
• Willingness to learn new skills and gain new information.
• Excellent attitude to safety
