It gave me life skills and confidence that I probably couldn’t have gained elsewhere.

What's involved?

The Canal Society's objectives are to restore, reconstruct, preserve, maintain and improve the Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal from Nob End, Little Lever to the River Irwell in Salford, to Church Wharf in Bolton, and to Bury Bridges in Bury. The society carries our regular working parties undertaking a variety of works to maintain and improve the canal, towpath and its surrounds.

What skills are we looking for?

No specialist skills are needed but are welcomed! If you have any specific practical experience please let our working party organiser know. Please get in touch via the link below to find out further details of the next event.

What will you get from us?

Working parties are a great way for everyone to pitch in and make a difference to our local canal. Unless it’s snowing or raining hard, they are really enjoyable and we always get a lot done. It’s surprising how many walkers, runners and cyclists stop to chat and congratulate us on whatever we are doing.
