Greeter Volunteer at Marple Toll House Welcome Station
Activities: Practical, Working with visitors, Customer Service
Starts: 1 August 2021
Marple, Peak Forest Canal, Stockport
We are looking to recruit volunteers to help support our existing team at our welcome station in Marple.
This is an opportunity to be the ‘face’ of the Canal & River Trust, playing a key role in the enjoyment of the visitor experience and ensuring visitors leave with a greater understanding and affinity to the waterways. It will involve being on hand to talk to visitors, increasing their understanding of the exhibits, enlightening them to the work that the Canal & River Trust carries out and inform them about the what, where, when and why of your local waterway, surrounding area and the charity as a whole.
We’re not looking for people who are experts in the nation’s waterways but we are looking for people who are friendly and approachable and know who to ask if they don’t know the immediate answer.
What's in it for you?
The opportunity to volunteer in a beautiful canal side location and meet new people. If you’ve got a passion and interest in the waterways, you can share it with others or if you enjoy pointing people towards the local pub or chippie, you’ll no doubt be able to do this as well. It’s very satisfying at the end of the conversation when people leave with a smile of ‘thanks’.
What skills are we looking for?
No specific skills are required for this role but it is desirable that you feel comfortable chatting to members of the public and work well in a team. This role could work well for couples or friends to work together.
