Join our team of education volunteers to lead school and uniformed groups on water safety themed visits around Leeds as well as running sessions in the classroom. All of our sessions are designed to be interactive and engage young people to think about staying SAFE around water.
This is a great opportunity for people who like working outdoors and who have previous experience of working with children. No 2 days are ever the same as we respond to the interests of the group - you could be working with Brownies to help them gain their water safety badge one day, then out exploring local history the next!
The role requires a commitment to between 3 and 4 days per month during school hours in term time, with some evening, weekend and school holiday activity sessions.
What skills are we looking for?
For roles working with children we are looking for volunteers who have
. Previous experience of working with children
. The desire to work outdoors
. The confidence to talk to, and deliver workshops with groups of children
. The ability to enthuse young people through practical activities
. The ability to volunteer flexibly
. The ability to drive to different locations
. The ability to work independently or within a team
This role involves regulated activity with children and adults at risk, as defined by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Therefore, an Enhanced Criminal Record check will be undertaken and references will be sought. A criminal record is not necessarily a bar to volunteering with us.
What will you get from us?
We provide you with resources and full training on how to lead groups of children at this specific location as well as in a more traditional classroom environment. You will have the support of an education officer as well as the other volunteers in your team. We reimburse you for all travel costs.
