We love and care for your canals and rivers, because everyone deserves a place to escape.
Our angling group has owned the fishing rights to Sutton Reservoir (one of the main water feeders for the Macclesfield Canal) for over 50 years and have always been keen to look after the area as best we can.
I'm Martin Williams. When the Canal & River Trust came into fruition our previous chairperson got in touch to see whether we could work together to make improvements. We were really pleased when they said ‘yes’, as long as we could supply the labour. We’ve been working together for the past four years repairing and resurfacing almost a mile of footpaths and shoring up eroding banking.
As an angling society we firmly believed that by adopting the reservoir we can take more ownership in improving and maintaining the area for ourselves and the local wildlife. But also all the people who are now increasingly using the area for walks as a result of these improvements.
We are happy to give something back and help maintain the natural area we enjoy.
