Family fun things to do at the museum

We offer a host activities at the museum, and with your annual pass you can enjoy most of them for free.

National Waterways Museum Gloucester Model Boats in the new galleries within the National Waterways Museum Gloucester

During half-term next week we are offering a few Rosie and Jim themed activities.

Visit our floating cinema on Sabrina 5, our floating exhibit and watch on old episode of Rosie and Jim.

See if you can find our very own Rosie and Jim dolls. They'll be hiding in a different place each day.

Story Makers

Together, we'll create stories inspired by Rosie and Jim. We’ll imagine what they might get up to at the Gloucester docks and think of all the fun they might have exploring the interesting objects on display in the museum.

This activity will run at 11.30am on Wednesday 20th and Friday 22nd February and will last for about 30 minutes.

Please reserve a space. Call 01452 318200.

Craft activities

Make your very own Roses and Castles watering can with Anna, inspired by Rosie and Jim’s painted canal boat.

Roses and Castles is the colourful canal folk art that was used to decorate working narrowboats *and canal-ware* in the 19th century. The Roses and Castle’s design includes paintings of, yes you guessed it, roses and castles! Along with flowers, cottages, churches, rivers and lakes.

See if you can spot any Roses and Castles objects in the museum and get some ideas for your own designs.”

This activity will run at 1.00pm on Wednesday 20th and Friday 22nd February and will last for about 30 minutes.

Please reserve a space. Call 01452 318200.

Seasonal trails and popular family wildlife trail

Wildlife is an ever present feature of the canals, whether it’s the birds and butterflies we see today or the mice and rats that called the grain warehouses home. Follow our family trail around the museum and meet some of the animals you might see out on the canal.

We are open every day except Monday.
